Three teams shortlisted for Hurontario LRT project

Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Metrolinx have shortlisted three teams to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Hurontario Light Rail Transit (LRT) project.

The Hurontario LRT project includes consists of 12.5 miles of new, dedicated line between Port Credit GO Station in Mississauga, ON, to the Gateway Terminal at Steeles Avenue in Brampton, 22 stations and a maintenance and storage facility for the light-rail vehicles.

"Mississauga and Brampton residents and visitors will be pleased to see work is on track for the Hurontario LRT project. Improving local public transit and travel options and connecting communities are key priorities for our government," said Ontario Minister of Infrastructure Bob Chiarelli.

IO and Metrolinx say the three teams were selected based on the criteria identified in a Request for Qualifications process that began in October 2016. Selection criteria included design, construction, maintenance and operational experience, as well as the financial capacity to deliver a project of this size and scope.

• Kiewit
• Meridiam
• Keolis

Construction on the project is anticipated to start in 2018, with an estimated in-service date in 2022.

"Our government is focused on delivering better rapid transit options to get Ontario moving. We're making progress and it shows with this next step for the Hurontario LRT. It is proof that we are committed to making your daily commute and travel faster and more convenient than ever before," said Ontario Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca.
